The Brazilian has shone in a generally underwhelming Wolves side this season.

The 25-year-old has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in the Premier League thus far, and he may increase those stats in the upcoming match against Arsenal on Saturday.

Cunha has a connection to Newcastle that dates back to when Dan Ashworth was the club’s sporting director.

In 2022, Atletico Madrid had offered Cunha to Newcastle, but both Ashworth and manager Eddie Howe turned down the chance.

Now, two and a half years later, Cunha has made a name for himself in England after permanently moving to Wolves in 2023.

Newcastle had expressed interest in Cunha before the January transfer window, but a transfer seemed unlikely as reports suggested he was willing to extend his contract with Wolves.

However, negotiations regarding Cunha’s contract have stalled, prompting several clubs to show interest in signing him.

Both Arsenal and Newcastle are still chasing Cunha and are now vying for his signature.

In a recent update on Cunha’s transfer situation, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has shed light on his future.

Wolves manager Vitor Pereira is dealing with difficulties as his team strives to stay in the Premier League.

The talks surrounding Cunha's potential departure are likely compounding the challenges he faces.

Reports have suggested that Cunha is keen on joining Arsenal in January to participate in the Champions League and compete for the Premier League title.

Nonetheless, Pereira has publicly asserted that his player is “not for sale.”

During his pre-match press conference, which was streamed on Wolves’ website, Pereira was asked about any bids for Cunha amid the transfer speculation.

“I have spoken with Cunha, and he is completely focused on the club.”

“He has never indicated a wish to leave.”

“He’s part of my squad, and from what I'm hearing from the club, I believe he’s not for sale.

He is committed to us, and we need him to deliver his usual performance, fully dedicated to the team.

It’s vital for us that Cunha stays.”

Newcastle is looking to secure Cunha in the summer.

With Newcastle interested in Cunha, Toon fans have already seen a preview of what he could contribute if signed.

The 25-year-old took part in both matches against Newcastle this season, with the first match resulting in a 2-1 victory for Newcastle at Molineux and the latest being a 3-0 win at St James’ Park.

Cunha came on as a substitute in that match and nearly found the net multiple times.

Fortunately for Newcastle, Martin Dubravka performed exceptionally well during that game.

While Newcastle may feel the urgency to make a move in January, sporting director Paul Mitchell views Cunha as a target for the summer when they should have more financial flexibility following the current PSR deadline.

It’s hard to ascertain how Cunha would fit into Newcastle’s starting eleven, as he primarily plays as an attacking midfielder at Wolves.

He might be able to take on a role as a right winger, a position he has occupied at times.
